Leave your interviewer with a good impression through speech and attitude

Onwards to the interview: how to leave your interviewer with a good impression through speech and attitude

Once the interview starts, recruiters not only pay attention to the content of the interview but the interviewee’s attitude and how they speak. These impressions often affect the recruiter’s decisions more than the interview’s content so paying attention to a certain few points will be of great help to passing the interview. This article will focus on the points to be aware of.

1. Speak clearly and slowly

Speaking quickly or answering questions with a quiet voice will give your interviewers an impression of lack of confidence. Additionally, interviewers may mishear or not hear what you have said at all. However, avoid speaking in a loud and overpowering voice. Speak as clearly and at a natural speed.

2. Be conscious of eye contact

Maintain eye contact with your interviewer when you speak. Eye contact gives an impression of confidence. On the other hand, wavering eyes or looking away will affect how convincing your answers will sound making it difficult to leave a good impression.

3. Do not forget to smile

Smiling is the basis of smooth communication. However, nerves may make your expression stiff. There is no need to smile throughout the interview but keep in mind to smile occasionally.

4. Beware of fidgeting

It is against etiquette to play with your hands, place elbows on the table, cross your legs and lean back on the chair. Playing with your hair or touching your face frequently gives an impression of uncalm. Be careful not to fidget unconsciously.

5. Do not lie or make up stories

Recruiters have interviewed many candidates and can easily see through lies and untrue stories. Even if the subject does not come up during the interview, if the recruiters believe you are lying, it will give them a bad impression making it difficult to pass the interview.

Paying attention to the above points will increase your chances of passing an interview. Review what you cannot do well and improve on those points.
